2022:
Biennial Dinner
This was held at the Leamington & County Golf Club, and our speaker was Dr. Chloe Johnson, Collections and Engagement Manager for Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum.
2021:
Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Shirley Brass Concert
This was held at the Royal Spa Centre on the 31 October 2021, and it included the world premiere of a work for both bands by Stephen Roberts.
The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band also played Volcano by Robert Simpson, an acclaimed work he wrote in 1979 for the National Brass Band Championship.
His birthplace is less than a hundred yards away from the Royal Spa Centre in Rosefield Street and a blue plaque was put up there in 2011.
Harry Venning
On the 8th October, we were pleased to sponsor the award winning cartoonist Harry Venning, creator of the hilarious Guardian & Radio 4 series Clare in the Community, at Warwick Words History Festival, when he presented a History of the Cartoon as well as drawing live!
2020:
Leamington Music Concert: Coventry and Warwickshire Youth Orchestra
We sponsored the Coventry and Warwickshire Youth Orchestra Spring Concert. This took place on Sunday 15th March at All Saints Church, Priory Terrace, Leamington Spa CV31 1AA.
2019:
The first, in January 2019, was the famous Carducci Quartet. The programme was very varied covering Mozart, Glass and Shostakovich.
The second, in February 2019, was the Coventry and Warwickshire Youth Orchestra. The programme included the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 5.
In October 2019, we sponsored a concert by Curzon Brass.
Donations and Projects:
The Arts Society uses some of its Gift Aid from subscriptions to support other Arts events.
A donation of £1000 was made to the Kenilworth Soroptimists in 2020 to support local art workshops for groups of disadvantaged women in the community, and the President of the Kenilworth Soroptimists, Julie Pembleton, has kindly forwarded this update report:
