With inspiring monthly lectures given by top experts in their field, together with special interest days, day visits and cultural holidays both at home and abroad, joining The Arts Society is a great way to be entertained, to learn, have fun and make new and lasting friendships.

You might also like to volunteer to help conserve and preserve our artistic heritage. We offer opportunities to learn new skills, meet people with similar interests and support the arts within our local community. We also support a number of local and regional artistic projects and activities.

John Singer Sargent: The Private Radical
Gavin Plumley
John Singer Sargent was high society’s leading portraitist, flaunting a consummate technique, his luxurious canvases mirrored his subjects’ wealth. This lecture will chart the artist’s life and his prolific output.
Gavin Plumley is a writer and broadcaster, and has appeared on Radios 3 and 4, and contributed to newspapers, magazines and opera and concert programmes worldwide.

How to Read the English Country Church Friday 21st March 2025
In May 2024, Nicholas Henderson gave a Wednesday lecture on Part 1 of “How to Read an English Country Church”. At this Day of Special Interest, he will continue this topic with Parts 2, 3 and 4.

DAY VISIT:
Kelmscott Manor & Buscot Park 14th May 2025
Kelmscott Manor is a National Heritage grade 1 listed building, and our trip and was the home of William Morris in his later years. The trip will include a guided tour followed by lunch after which we will go by coach to Buscot Park.
Buscot Park is a late 18th century house with a famous Italianate water gardenand has a significant collection of Rembrandt, Botticelli and pre-Raphaelite works. We will have a talk explaining the collection, house and gardens, after which we will be free to explore.
